An official bulletin issued this morning regarding the health of the Queen announces that her Majesty continues to improve. Her recovery from the accident at Windsor Castle is, however, slow, and it will be impossible for her Majesty to stand or walk for some time. The foreman of the jury by which the prisoner Brady was convicted for the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke, has received several threatening letters, and is under continual police protection. Bernard Gallagher, who was arrested at Glasgow for connection with the Fenian conspiracies in various cities in England, has been conveyed from Glasgovv to London. It is, however, denied that ho turned informer against hia alleged accomplices. In consequence of the revelations which have been made by the prisoner now undergoing sentence of penal servitude regarding the case of murder and conspiracy at Clare Island, ten persons have been arrested by the police. In the House of Commons to-day a question was put to the Under-Secre-tary for the Colonies regarding the reported annexation of New Guinea. In reply, the Hon. Evelyn Ashley confirmed the announcement, and informed the House that the island had been taken by the Queenland Government in the name of her Majesty the Queen, pending a decision by the Imperial Government on the suVject. Ashley added that annexation was deemed expedient in order to prevent the acquisition of New Guinea by foreign Powers,
The trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the prisoners charged with the murder of Cavendish and Burke, was commenced in Dublin to-day. On the opening of the Court eight jurors who had been summoned were found to be absent and were ordered to pay fines of £IOO each.
