Arrived, yesterday morning, the Wakatipu, from Wellington. The machinery of the Austral has been found to be but little injured by its long immersion, and only requires cleaning to be again in proper working order. (Received April 3, noon.) April 3. The New Sonth Wales revenue for the last quarter amounted to £1,510,000, beinga decrease of £162,500 as compared with the same quarter of last yeax\ The Customs revenue has increased by £23,500, and railway receipts by £49,250; but the revenue from land shows a decrease of £148,000. The expenditure for the March quarter amounted to £1,410,000. The revenue for the year ended 31st March is £7,260,000, being an increase of £259,500 as compared with the year 1881-82. (Received April 3.) Melbourne, April 2. The Victorian revenue returns to 31st March have been published. They show that the total receipts for the March quarter amounted to £1,475,000, being a decrease of £67.000 as compared with the same quarter of last yeai\ The falling-off is chiefly in excise and land revenue. For the year ended 31st March, the revenue amounted to £5,631,000, being an increase of £78,000, or a net increase of £42,000 in first nine months of the financial year ending 30th June. (Received April 2, 10 p.m.) Arrived, the P. and O. Company's steamship Shannon, with the Suez mail, which left London February 23. The Court of Appeal has refused to disturb the verdict in favour of defendant, which was passed last month in the action for libel brought by De Mestrej'the well known horse owner, against Syme, proprietor of the Leader. (Received April 3, 12.30 p.m.) April 3. The overland telegraph line between Adelaide and Port Darwin is interrupted. It is expected that the International
Postal Conference will meet in Sydney early next month. (Received April 2, 10 p.m.) Adelaide, April 2. The South Australian revenue for the last quarter amounted to .£579,000 being an increase of £BOOO as compared with the same quarter of 1882. The revenue for the nine months ending 31st March is £1,578,000, being a decrease of £146,000 as compared with the same period of 1881—82. The falling-off is chiefly of land revenue, and due to a bad season. Arrived—this evening, the Orient steamship Garonne, from Plymouth, February 13.
