PROPOSED TRACKS NORTH OF THE TEREMAKAU.

The monthly meeting of the Grey County Council was held yesterday, when motions for the following tracks were brought forward : Cr. Eoley moved—“ That a track be made from the present gravelled track to the farms on the Terernakau, distance about 60 chains.” Leave was given to amend the motion by substituting 30 chains instead of 60. This was seconded by Cr. M'Kechnie and carried. Cr. Warren moved “That the County Surveyor be instructed to at once proceed with the survey of the prospecting horse-track from Cape Terrace to Cameron’s Terrace; also the extension of Irishman’s track to connect the Mosquito Creek track; and that the proper Government officer be applied to to report on same with a view to getting the subsidy for such tracks from the Mining Department.” The work had been sanctioned about 12 months’ ago, but the .Engineer’s time had been so taken up that he was unable to do anything towards it. If carried out, the work would be found to be reproductive. Good prospects of coarse gold had been obtained in the gullies. If the track were made, he felt certain that all those who were induced to leave at the time Rimn broke out would soon come back. Cr. Eoley strongly supportad the motion. He knew of his own knowledge that the want of a track had caused people to leave who would otherwise have remained. After some discussion, the Chairman moved the addition of the following words to the resolution :—“ That is as soon as a reply is received from Government agreeing to subsidise the construction of the several prospecting tracks which the Council has agreed to construct ; and that the Road Overseer be instructed to proceed with the survey without delay; also, that Government be requested to state definitely what tracks they are prepared to subsidise.” The motion as amended was then agreed to.
