An illicit still was seized yesterday afternoon in the bush, about eight miles from Palmerston, in an out-of-the-way spot. Constable Gillespie and Stanton long suspected the existence of a still, and a few days ago found it after a lengthy search. Information coming to Wanganui of the discouery, Inspector James and Mr Luudon (Collector of Customs) proceeded to the spot, in a dense bush, where a spring takes its

Jessop has been convicted of the same thing here five years ago. This is one of the most extensive affairs ever known in the Colony. It contained a 400-gallon vat and still, cased with brickwork, and was close to another still, and two boilers also encased in biickwork. Other appliances such as barrels, &c., and 4i)o gallons of wash were ready to pass through the still. The plant is capable of turning out 100 gallons of spirits daily. The prisoners were taken to Palmerston, where the case will be brought up.
