Intelligence to hand from Port Darwin states that telegraphic communication with Java is intemipted. Arrived, on the evening of the 9th, the Orient steamship Iberia, from Plymouth. Sailed, on the 9th, the Union Company's steamer Wairarapa, for the Bluff,
(Received March 12, 2.15 p.m.) Blarch 12. Mr Service has announced his intention of addressing his constituents at Castleraaine on Thursday next, when he will propound the Ministerial programme. (Received March 12, 1.15 a.m.) Sydney, March 12. The sculling race at Grafton, on Saturday, between Rush and Laycock, resulted in an easy victory for Laycock by four lengths. A handicap race was won very easily by Macdonald. The steamship Austral is now safely at anchor at her old moorings in Neutral Bay, where she sank in November last. Mr Redmond, the Irish agitator, held a meeting at Bathnrst on Saturday evening. The proceedings were quite orderly. THE ANGLO-VICTORIAN CRICKET MATCH. (Received March 12, 12.30 a.m.) Melbourne, March 10. The Anglo-Victorian cricket match was resumed to-day. The Victorian team continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 284. Midwinter played a splendid innings for 92, not out; M'Shane scored 27. The Englishmen then went in for their first innings, and when stumps were drawn for the day had put together only 47 for the loss of seven wickets. The weather was showery during the day, and play was occasionally stopped. There was a large attendance of spectators, by whom the greatest interest was taken in the game. The following are the present scores in the Englishmen's first innings : C. T. Studd, b, 11 ; Tylecote, b, 4; Bates, b, 0; Leslie, 1.b.w., 0; Steele, b, 11 ; Read, c, 7 ; Barlow, not out, 1; Barnes, run out, 11. (Received March 12, 2.15 p.m.) March 12. The weather is now improving, but the gronnd on which the Anglo-Vic-torian cricket match is being played is thoroughly soaked after yesterday's rain. VICTORIA RACING CLUB AUTUMN MEETING. (Received March 10, 7.30 p.m.) Melbourne, March 10. At the fourth day's Victoria Racing Club's meeting to-day the Newmarket Handicap was won by Tyrolean, with Coldstream second, and Transferred third. Thirty-three horses started. It was a splendid race throughout, Tyrolean only winning by a neck. The Steeplechase was won by Obadiah, with Coomete second, and Clansman third. The Town Plate, a sweepstake of lOsovs. each, h. ft., with 500 added, For 3-year-olds and upwards. Weight for age. The second horse to receive lOOsovs. and the third SOsovs. out of the stake.
