LOCAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Kumara Local School Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening; present—Mr R. J. Seddou (Chairman), Messrs Barrowman, Burger, Cain, Campbell, and Stanton.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of, and the inward read and received. The resignation of Mr Harre was accepted, the usual month’s notice to date from the Ist of March, and the Central Board to be informed of the same. It was resolved that the Central Board be asked at once to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Havre’s resignation, and also to forward to the Committee any list of teachers they may have to choose from. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Board and again bring under its notice the great necessity of repairing and painting the Kumara School and teacher’s residence before winter sets in. The Secretary was authorised to get the School chimneys cleaned and the water-tanks repaired. It was resolved that the police be asked to look after trespassers on the Kumara State School grounds, and prosecute offenders, if necessary. It was resolved that the head teacher be requested to write to the parents of children who are irregular in their attendance at school. It was resolved to apply to the Board for copies of the Education Act; for the Board’s Regulations and bye-laws; also for a long-promised terrestrial globe for the use of the Westbrook School. It was resolved that the certificates of merit be presented to the scholars on Thursday, the 15th March. The Committee then adjourned.
