One of tbe complainants of the neglect of duty on the part of the local Hospital wardsman complains of a slight inaccuracy in the report of a statement he made at the investigation by the Committee on Tuesday last, and we elsewhere give liis own version of the circumstance alluded to. It is to be hoped we have now heard the last of this mean and trumpery charge against a faithful and attentive servant of our local institution. Whilst we can but admire the promptitude with which the Committee acted when a grave charge was brought against Mr Ross, the Wardsman, the inquiry has tended rather to increase than diminish the value of Mr Ross's service?, not only in the estimation of the Committee, but also a very large majority of the discerning public and those who have the affairs of our local institution at heart. The fact of the two letters (signed truly by Messrs Martin and Hendy) bearing the same date, the first and last paragraphs of each being worded precisely alike, and both being addressed to the Secretary instead of the Chairman of the Hospital Committee, point pretty conclusively
that the letters emanated from the same author, or were dictated by a unity, although they bore different signatures. However, as Messrs Hendy and Martin attended the investigation when asked by the Committee to substantiate their charges, we must take it for granted that they made them, as they both say, " for the benefit of the institution and those patients who may happen to be located there." The inquiry, we trust, will benefit present and futui-e patients in acting as a caution to kindly-disposed persons not to infringe the rules of the institution, nor to kill with kindness patients who are forbidden (as in this case one was by three medical gentlemen) the smallest quantity of alcoholic liquor.
