A meeting’ of the Hospital Committee was held last evening, at which the complaints against the Wardsman of the Hospital were fully investigated, the result being—“ That after a searching examination into the charges peferred by Messrs Martin and Hendy against Mr Ross, the Wardsman, for neglect of duty, the Committee are fully satisfied that no neglect of duty had been proved.” A report of the proceedings will appear to-morrow. The mail coach from Springfield arrived this afternoon before two o’clock. The Wanaka, with the southern portion of the San Francisco mails, left New Plymouth for Wellington at noon yesterday. It is probable, therefore, that the Westland portion will arrive by coach from Christchurch on Saturday, unless some steamer be on the eve of leaving Wellington for the West Coast. A grand select anniversary ball and promenade supper, under the auspices of the Kumara Branch Irish National Land League, will be held in the Adelphi Theatre, on Friday, the IGth March next. The very great success which attended the celebration of the “ Centenary” last year, lias induced the League to make this an annual jubilee, and the proceeds will be devoted to the objects of the League. The charge for admission is moderate, and tickets may be procured from Messrs J. Hayes, M. J. Maloney, and M. Maloney. Tenders are required from persons skilled in playing the violin, cornet, and piano, for a night’s dance music. Applications to be addressed, on or before Saturday evening next, to Mr M. Maloney, Kumara. T,y a proclamation in the Gazette of the Ist instant, the Licensing Districts of Greymouth East, Greymouth Central, and Greymontb West arc abolished and amalgamated under the name of the Greymouth Licensing District, as from the 2nd day of February, 1833. The Licensing Districts of Westport North, Westport Central, and Westport South, are also abolished and amalgamated under the name of the Westport Licensing District, as from the same day.
In addition to the announcement made in our Dunedin telegrams yesterday that 1 ( there is a likelihood of Bishop Moran being asked to contest the election for the Inangahua,” we find that M!r AVakefield, the ex-Member for Geraldine, has been solicited to come forward; and as a matter of fact, a requisition has been forwarded to Mr Richard Reeves. The latter (the Reefton Herald observes) has placed himself in the hands of the electors and a meeting of his supporters will doubtless be held shortly, with the object of securing his election. An address to the electors also appears in the Herald from Mr Win. M'Lean ; and Sir Wm, Fox is also mentioned as a probable candidate.
