THE LAND LAWS OF NEW SOUTH WALES. NEW SOUTH WALES MINISTERIAL PROGRAMME. THE MARKETS. ARRIVAL OF THE SUEZ MAIL. THE VICTORIAN LOAN FAILURE. NEW ZEALAND’S GOVERNOR. (Received January 10, 1 p.m.) Sydney, January 10. Government has appointed a Commission, consisting of Messrs Augustus Morris and George Rankin, to inquire into the condition and working of the existing land laws of New South Wales. (Received January 10, 10 p.m.) The re-election fort Eas Sydney of Mr G. H. Reid, Minister of Public Instruction, will be opposed by Mr Blkington. The programme which is about to be laid before the Legislative Assembly by the new Government embraces the the amendment of the land laws and civil service, an Act for the reform of the criminal law, and provision for a larger measure of local self-government. Melbourne, January 10. The Loan and Mercantile Agency Company of New Zealand reports of the local grain market as follows : Shipping wheat, firmer, at 4s 9d to 4s lOd. New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 9d to 3s 3d. The demand for oats has slackened, and prices have declined. Arrived, this morning the P. and O. Co.’s steamship Clyde, with the Suez mail. The failure of the loan in the market is a complete surprise, and the subject is a topic of general interest at the present moment.

Sir William Jervois, who arrived from Adelaide by the steamship Clyde last night, will proceed by her to Sydney, and thence to Wellington by the Wakatipu. (Received January 11, 12.30 p.m.) January 11.

The failure of the Victorian loan in London is attributed to the high minimum, which is believed to have deterred the whole sale application. It is stated that the Colonial Treasurer is hopeful that the balance of the loan will be subscribed by Monday next. The local press condemn delay which occurred in issuing the loan, thus losing a favourable opportunity in the London market.

Lady Jervois is at present indisposed, and will remain on board the steamship Clyde instead of proceeding overland to Sydney.
