LITERARY INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Committee of the Kumara Literary Institute was held on Wednesday evening • present —Mr Havre (in the chair), Messrs Smart, Dennett, Wells, Smith, Duckworth, and R. Wylde(Hon. Sec.). The new monthly journals were laid upon the table, viz., “ Chambers’s Journal,” “ Harper’s Monthly,” and “The Nineteenth Century.” It was resolved that all monthly journals be allowed to remain on the table till the next series arrive, and that then they be treated as books. The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Borough Council for a subsidy. The consideration of the exchange of books with the Stafford Literary Society was left in the hands of a subcommittee appointed for the purpose. The Weekly Scotsman and the Cardiff Times were ordered to be obtained. The meeting was then adjourned.
