REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.
London, May 5. Lord Frederick Cavendish, the new Irish Secretary, and Mr Burke, UnderSecretary, were walking through Phoenix Park, Dublin, this evening, when they were both horribly stabbed to death. No further particulars have transpired, and so far as is known no arrests have been made. A serious disturbance occurred to-day at Ballina, in Ireland. In consequence of the rejoicings which were taking place over the release of the Irish members, the police were called out to disperse the gathering, when the mob stoned the police and the latter fired and wounded seven of the rioters. The formal opening of Epping Forest, in Essex, took place to-day with great eclat. The opening ceremony was performed by Her Majesty the Queen, in presence of a great concourse of people. An extensive procession to the scene of the proceedings was organised on the occasion. The Australian Cricketers are now practising daily, but their form is described as poor.
