Auckland, May 3. The body of a man believed to be that of the late Dr. Kohle, has been found in Waitangi Bay, Waipipi. The material for the erection of the public post office at Wade was destroyed by fire. It was the property of the Waitemata County Council. There is little doubt the act was that of an incendiary.
May 5. The City Council passed a vote of thanks to Sir Arthur Gordon for throwing open Government House Grounds to the public.
A private cablegram has been received stating that Largis, the levanter, lias been arrested at Adelaide. It is ascertained that over .£BOOO, deposited by him in the
Colonial Bank at Auckland, was drawn by his wife in gold a few days before his disappearance. Wellington, May 5. A meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association was held this evening at the Chamber of Commerce, His Worship the Mayor in the chair. The question of holding the next competition meeting was fully discussed. A large and influential committee was formed for ihe purpose of eliciting information as to the suitability of Wellington to be reported to the Council of the association. The Committee includes most of the leading volunteers and prominent citizens. Christchurch, May 5. The chemical fire engine ordered some time ago by the Fire Brigade is ready and will be here in a few weeks. It is described in the Baltimore newspaper as being one of the largest turned out of the inventor's factory, and when placed on exhibition it excited general admiration by the completeness of its equipment and workmanship. The system of electric fire alarms is also being got into order rapidly. Dunedin, May 5. At Gatlin’s River, a little boy, a son of Mr Miller, has been drowned by falling out of a flat-bottomed boat. ’ The contract for the erection of the new railway station buildings at Timaru has been let to John M‘Combe of Oamaru. for £3498.
