LATEST ENGLISH NEWS. London,. April 22. It has transpired that Government have decided to reduce' the strength of the native troops in the Imperial service in India at an .early date,- and that four regiments of cavalry and nineteen of infantry are about to.be disbanded. The funeral of the' late Dr. Darwin will take place at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday, 20tli.inst. TRICKETT AND HAND AN. London, April 22. Both Trickett; and Hanlan are in first rate form, and are out practising twice daily for their approaching contest. Hanlan is using-a boat which he brought from America. The race is regarded as almost a certainty for Hanlan. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, April 25. The Victorian Parliament was opened by His Excellency the Governor, who, in his speech on the occasion, said that the increase of revenue had enabled the practical extinguishing to a great extent of the deficit of the past year. His Excellency announced that ‘bills would be brought down during, the session for the reduction of postage, for law and land reform, civil service regulation, increase of self-government, and for the preservation of the public health.
