CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Board gfet at the Board room, at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday last j pfresent— Messrs Perkins (Chairman), Grimmond; M'Whirter, Petrie, Reid, Wartier, and Dr. Morice. Tile following business having reference to this district is extracted from the Argus • Resolved—That Mr Jofceph Taylor; having the largest number of votes, be declared duly elected a member of this Board, to fill the.extraordinary vacancy caused bv the retirement of Mr Francis Hamilton.” The votes were divided as follows :-J. Taylor, II ; M. W. Jack, 9 ; F. Guinness, 2'; F. Barrowman, 1 j J. F. Byrne, 0. No vote was recorded from Jackson's Bay. Resolved —“ That Messrs Rudkin; Reid, Dr. Morice, Mr Joseph Taylor; and the Chairman, be appointed a Finance Committee for the ensuing year.” Resolved - “ Tliat Messrs Petrie, M'Whirter, Warner, Grinsmoud, and the Chairman, be a Building Committee for the ensuing year.” From the Secretary Kumara Committee, revesting the Board to appoint Miss West as pupil teacher of Kumara' school, in place of Miss Howe. Resolved—“ That Miss West be appointed pupil teacher of Kumara school according to classification.” The Secretary laid before the Board the auditor’s report and balance-sheet for 188-1. JO 0 0 Nelson Creek School 12 10 0 k Resolved—“ That the sum of £332 10s be voted for the School Committees 'as mentioned in the schedule of schools not under the 88th clause. Proposed by Mr M‘Whir ter, Seconded by Mr Petrie—“ That all schools under the 88th clatise receive the sUm of £lO as allowance for cleaning and fuel.” The following amendment was moved by Mr Perkins, and seconded by Mr M‘Whirter—“ That £7 10s per annum be granted to schools under the 88lb 'clause. The Chairman declared the amendment carried. Resolved—“ That all Committees he £aid on the old scale up to the 31st of March, 1882, aud that the new scale take effect on an after that date.” . The Board met again at 11 a.m., on Friday, at the Board Room, the same iuemberS being present. The Secretary read the following report of the Building Committee:—Your Committee Have the honor to report that they met this mofning after the adjournment of the Board at 1.30 a.m., and sat until 3.30 a.m.; and beg to make the following recommendation ; Kumara district. .blackboard be supplied to the Westbrook school.”— 1 * That the question of painting the schools in the Kumara district stand over until the Board are kware of the amount Of the building grant.”
