Under the distinguished patronage of his Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communicatiorl received from the Consul-General fot Italy, at Melbourne, upon instrric tions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated i4th March, IS 78. We are informed tha.t dealers in nied.icn'e often try to sell the oil found in the trade instead of oui ; Eucalyptus Extract;. .So far as the committing' of imposition against the 1 public in such a case is concerned, the consequences would,, not. be serious) but as the qualities of both of. the products are in many cases directly op* posed to one another, we consider it our' duty to direct thfe public attention to the following Facts : '• ~ " The eucalyptus oil is recorded to be of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought on by the application of a medicament must increase inflammation, and it is therefore evident that in bases of wounds, coldsj bronchitis, diptheria, croup, sprains l , &c, the curative power of our extract ou the named diseases being unquestionably prdvfed by former publications' ih. this paper, aii application of the oil instead of our extract riiiist impaii? the. diseased. The ti-u.th of: our assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resiuoua product, equivalent to common turpentine, its riiarket value being about three" shillings oiie pound weight: Our extract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum.leavesj soothing and Healing in its effects, its price being twenty-fdnr shillings for one pound weight. Oni- extract, the genuine article, is only niade up in One Hal£ ounce arid one ounce vials'; vials bearing on the labels our trade mark and signature: SANDER arid SONS; Sole turers of the Eucalyptus Extract; Sandhurst, November; 1878. DUNCAN M'LEAN, Wholesale Agent for New Zealand; The Extrabt of the Eucalyptus Gltf bulus, manufactured solely by Messrs Sander and Sons* Sandhurst, recommends itself by tile following declaration and testimonials:— Epitome of declaration made before Moritz Cohn, J.P.; on the 17th October; 1877, at Sandhurst :—" Three' medical gentlemen had attended the son of Mi 4 Raabe; of Ironbark; for nine weeks; and declared that amputation of the leg injured by an axe was absolutely necessary. At this junction Mr Raabe called on Messrs Sander and Sons, prdcuring some of their Extract of the Eucalyptus Globulus, and; by the application of the same he had the satisfaction of seeing his son within a fortnight out of all danger; ahd He has now quite recovered." Brief Extracts frtim the BendigO Evening News:— Mr Gieschen; residing hear Sydenham Gardens, had a very severe cold in November, could scarcely breathe, and could get no relief. Cured after three applications of the extract. The same gentleman suffered eight years from rupture, arid all medical skill proved ineffectual in giving relief. Cured after takiug extract internally for six months. A man having his arm bruised severely at a crushing rtiadhine, in Long Gully; applied the extract, arid the ac-' cident did not even necessitate as much as an interruption in his attendance at work. Mrs Weppner, iri Colbinabbni (Runnymede) informed the manufacturers that the extract applied twice restored health to her daughter,- eleven years of age, who had been rushed and trampled Upon by a cow. In November, Mrs Reeves, from the Rifleman's Arms, Back Creek, brought information of a cure of delirium caused by sunstroke, which took place" in the family of Mr Ryan, butcher, of Back Creek. The wife of Mr Flckei Suffered in the bend of the knee from a swelling which had formed a lump of considerable size, disabling her* from attending to any work, She removed the swelU ing completely by a continued application of the extract. The Donald Times* of ist December 1 , 1877, states:—Last week the eldest boy of Mr Morgan awoke in the night crying with earache.
