KUMARA HOSPITAL.
A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held in the Secretary’s room, Main street, -last evening; present— Mr Pearn (in the chair), Messrs Toms, Campbell, White, and Nicholson (secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Wardsman’s Report for the month was read and received. Messrs Campbell and Dinan were apeointed on the house committee, vice Messrs Hughes and Wilson, who hav.e left the district. It was proposed “That as Dr, Porter has publicly expressed his disapproval of the use of alcohol, his attention be drawn to the monthly consumption of beer and spirits in the hospital.” The motion was carried. The house, committee .reported that Mr Birch had taken his wife to the hospital and left her in the passage; that Dr. Porter had certified that she was not a fit person for admission as a patient, and she was removed next day. The report was received and adopted. The following gentlemen were appointed to canvass the town and country for subscriptions : —Messrs Morris and Morgan, at Dill man’s Town; Messrs Pearn and Toms, Main street ; Messrs Campbell and Nicholson. Seddon street. Mr Toms gave notice that he would, at the next monthly meeting of the Committee, move that Rule 3 be amended, to read as follows : “That yearly and half-yearly ticket-, holders be entitled to the benefits of the institution free of charge, when resident in the Hospital. As outdoor patients, they will be entitled to medical advice and medicines at the hospital free of charge. • “ Non-ticket holders will not be admitted except in cases of severe accident or on payment, of 30s a week in advance, or as pauper patients ; and if admitted as paupers and are afterwards in a position to pay, they will be held liable to the committee in the aura of 30s per week for each week they have been inmates of the Hospital. “ All medicines supplied to patients
shall be dispensed by" the surgeon or a qualified chemist or druggist.” The following sums were handed in to the Treasurer Mr Hughes, 10s; Mr White, 10s. Accounts to the amount of £69 10s 6d were passed for payment. This concluded the business of the meeting.
