THE PAYMENT FOR WATER IN ADVANCE.
A meeting of the Kumara Miners Committee, formed for the purpose of carrying into effect the modifications in the terms and conditions on which the Kumara &lndge-channel tort be Used by persons other'than the holder of stfch sludge-channel, and also the abnegation of the proposal to pay for water in advance, was held at Dillman's Town on Saturday evening last. There were eighteen members present. A letter was received from the Secretary of the G'lldsborough Cnmmittee which committee was formed for a similar object. The following is a copy: To Mr F. Thorn, Dillman's. Dear Sir—ln reply to yours of 16th inst., I am now instructed to forward the enclosed £5, to assist in sending delegate to Wellington. I have no further news, but I think you can depend on Goldsborough on holding out, as we have all signed .an agreement to that effect. Please acknowledge receipt. I am, yours, &c, Wm. Murdoch, Secretary Mines Committee. Goldsborough, March 23, 1882. The following reply was ordered to be forwaided : To Mr Wm. Murdoch, Hon. Sec, Miners Committee, Goldsborough. Sir—l have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your favor of the 23rd inst., with enclosure of £5, towards defraying expenses in connection with miners' petition to be forwarded to Wellington by delegate ; and for which on behalf of Miners' Executive Committee and miners, I heartily thank yon ; and further, to assure you that the assistance rendered by Waimea and Stafford will not be forgotten by—Yours faithfully, For Miners Committee, F. Thorn, Hon. Secretary. Dillman's, March 24, 1882. By request, Mr Albert Sampson attended the meeting to «ive an explanation of the terms on which he was usin" water from the Government for then' tank claim. [A letter on ihe subject from Mr Sampson appears in our correspondence columns.] The explanation w-is deemed satisfactory by the Committee. The meeting then adjourned till Thursday next. A meeting was held at Larrikins Terrace on the 18th inst., when the following memorandum of agreement was entered into :—. This to certify, that we the undersigned miners pledge our3elve3 not to lift any certificate from Warden's Court, Kumara, with any conditions relative to privilege of using sludge-channel, until such time
as the petition now in course of si mature is presented to the Minister of Mines, and Im decision in respect to same be heard. To Mr Warden H. A. &matford-. also request ydu, .to please postpone dur applications until we hear fiom Minister of Mines. [Sigmjd By 91- miners]
