Mr Burnaby yesterday ascended in the balloon Eclipse from the south coast, of England with the object; of crossing the channel to France. Telegrams are to hand this morula" showing that he has been .successful,, the balloon having been sighted fiom Boulogne, on the French coast. Berlin, March 22. The eightj-fifth anniversary of the birth-day of the Emperor William was celebrated to-day with great enthusiasm and rejoicing throughout the Empire. March 23. A telegram has been received by the Kmpeior William from the Czar of Russia, conveying the Liter's warmest greeting on the occasion of his Majesty's birthday. Constantinople, March 23. Intelligence has readied here that a vessel containing » cargo of dynamite and gunpowder has been seized by Russian authorities at Kertch, a seaport in the Crimea. Ottawa, March 23. The Canadian House of Commons has passed, a Bill legalising marriage with a deceased wife's sister. +- LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, March 24. The Age to-day asserts the genuineness of the information given yesterday regarding the Russian designs upon the Colonies, and publishes documentary evidence in support of Bryant's statement. The Argus this morning states
that the Age's information is a palpable hoax, and completely fallacious, and that Bryant was employed on matters altogether unconnected with Australian defence. The affair has caused great excitement here. Intelligence is to hand that the ship Sobraon, bound from Melbourne to London, for whose safety fears were entertained, arrived at Capetown on the 23rd inst. Sydney, March 24. Intelligence is to hand that supplies are now arriving at Mount Brown. The distress among the diggers is proved to have been exaggerated. The supply of water is short, and is the really only great want.
