THE MINERS' PETITION AND THE MAYOR.

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir—Ynuvcorrespondent "Vigilant" states in his letter of 18fch inst. that a petition is " going round " and people "are asked to sign it on the quiet," and that I alone am responsible for it. I neither know nor do I believe such to be the case, but, on the contrary, I believe it to be quite untrue. The other portion of his letter needs no reply. I do not intend to notice further such an irrepressible and vexatious correspondent. J. O'Hagan. Kumara, March 20.
