Telegrams are to hand reporting that the Herzegovinian insurrectionists have lately suffered several defeats at different points at the hands of the Austrian troops, and that they are rapidly losing ground and falling back from their positions. Washington, March 9. The Chinese Exclusion Bill is still under discussion in the senate. At today’s sitting an amendment to the measure was proposed with the view of admitting skilled Chinese workmen, but after debate the amendment was rejected by it large majority. March 10. At a later period of yesterday’s sitting, and after a protracted debate* the Chinese Exclusion Bill tfas finally passed by the Senate. —* LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, March 10.
