KUMARA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
•. A meeting of the Eumara Benevolent Society was held on Thursday evening last, in the Town Hall, at 9.30 P-rri.; present the Rev. W. West (Chairman), Messrs O’Hagan, Rudkin, Smart, and the Revs. R. Fennell and J. Holland (Hon. Sec.). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was proposed by Mr O’Hagan,and carried—“ That the Rev. W. West and Mr Rudkin make arrangements for sending to Dunedin, the two smaller children of McDonald } also final ar; rangemeuts for sending the remaining four children of the same family to s Government institution.”' The Hon. Secretary pointed out items in the bills of the various recipients of aid which he considered luxuries, and not necessaries; and advised the committee to consider the present mode of administering relief, and of adopting some other plan so as to guard against a further misuse of the society’s moneys. After a lengthened discussion the meeting was adjourned until Monday 7th March, at 7.30 p.tn. At the hour appointed last Messrs Seddon, Smart, O’Hagan, and the Rev. J. Holland (Hon. Sec.) only were present, and were not sufficient to form a quorum for business. The Hon. Secretary, who is also the Treasurer, announces that the society having overdrawn to a considerable sum, he is obliged to suspend all 'sup-' plies and charitable aid, pending the meeting of a full quorum of the committee and the action taken by them.
