LATEST ENGLISH NEWS. London, March 4. An attempt was made yesterday by Mr Simons and Colonel Blaine to cross the English Channel in a balloon. When they had got some distance out at sea, the balloon descended, and, after floating for some time, it and its occupants were picked up by a passing vessel and brought to Dover. It has transpired that M‘Lean, who attempted the life of the Queen, was formerly confined in a lunatic asylum. The persons who were recently arrested on the charge of stealing the body of the late Earl Ciawford, have been released, owing to want of evE dence against them.
