THE ATTEMPT ON THE LIFE OF THE QUEEN. London, March 3. The Queen continues well, her health having in no way suffered in consequence of the attempt • upon her life. Universal sympathy is manifested towards her Majesty, telegrams having been received to-day from the various courts testifying to the sympathy which is felt, and the expression of gratification at Her Majesty’s providential escape from injury. The bullet which was fired from the assailant’s revolver has been found near the scene of the outrage. The prisoner, Roderick M‘Lean, was brought up to day at the Police Court and charged with an attempt on the Queen’s life. He was quite collected, showing no symptoms of insanity, and pleaded that poverty drove him to commit the outrage. He declared that he had no intention of murdering her Majesty. He was lemauded to Friday next. MATCH BETWEEN TRICKETT AND HANLAN. London. March 3. The rest of the team consist of Bannerman, Blackham, Bounor, Boyle, Garrett, Giffeu, M'Donuell, and Palmer. March 4. The cricket match, Australian Eleven v. All England, was resumed this morning. The Australians continued their first innings, and at the lunch adjournment the score has reached 103 for three wickets. M‘Donnell, not out, 53 1 Bannerman, not out, 36. Both are batting well. Weather, showery.
