TO CORRESPONDENTS.

“ Cornstalk. —The 775 runs for a single innings of your countrymen the cricketers of New South Wales in their match with the Victorians, when the former were at the wickets for more than two whole days, beats any previous record, the largest number of runs chronicled being in a match played on the Derby County Ground in July, 1880, between the Gentlemen of Notts and the Derbyshire Friars, when the latter totalled 742. Exactly this number was also made in 1879 by the East Melbourne Eleven against Tasmania ; whilst 724, for the loss of eight wickets, was obtained in an English match Royal Artillery v. Engineers. AMr Collins, in a match played in the Isle of Wight in 1874, ran up 338 in a little over three hours, his hits including one 9, two 7’s, and six 6’s. During 1881 in England the century was attained by over 500 different players, so that big scores are now much less of a wonder than they were a few years ago.
