WHAT A NEWSPAPER CAN DO.
We wonld c'tirrim'end the following clipping from the Philadelphia Printer's Circular to the attention: of 6'nr readers. The words are so true that they deserve" to be written in letters of gold :'—" The' columns of a ne\vsj>aper are the publisher's stock-in-trade, and the parties who ask io use them" for especial beuefit must expect to pay for the same. Every public-spirited citizen of a place should! have a pride in seeing his town and! surroundings improved. Every new house, every road, every new manafacituring establishment erected, every uew : business opened, enhances the value of property in our midst. Every reflecting mind knows- this to be true, and i 6 should not be forgotten that the local newspaper adds much to the general wealth as it increases the reputation of the town abroad. It benefits all who have business in the place; it enhances the value of property, besides being a desirable public convenience, even if not conducted in the interests of the mling power. It increases trade, ifc cautions against imposition, it saves you from loss, it warns of dan«er, it points out different advantages, and increases your profits. The local press is the power that moves the people; therefore support it by advertising in it liberally, and subscribing for it."
