[to the editor.] Sir—As three of the candidates for the Borongh Licensing Committed have been either proposed or seconded by innkeepers, and two others by gentle : men connected with the liquor traffic; the question arises as to the validity of those nominations. The favor of your opinion is requested by—Yours, &c., A Ratepayer. EumUra, February 9. [AI though the Licensing ■ Act disqualifies any person from being elected or acting as a member of the Licensing Committee who is a brewer, wine or spirit merchant, malster, distiller, importer for sale of or a dealer in liquors, or in partnership with any such person; or who acts as the agent or auctioneer for any such person, or who is interested in any sucli business, Or in any such house or building or premises as mortgagee or otherwise ; such persons are not disqualified froth proposing; seconding, or taking part in the election of members of the Licensing Committee.—Ed.
