The Earl of Granville, Foreign Secretary, has communicated to the Press a denial of the statements which have been current to the effect that the AngloFrench note of the Bth ult. guaranteeing the maintenance of the Khedive’s authority against disorder is tantamount to an intimation of the decision of England and France to use armed intervention in the event of anarchy arising in Egypt.

Washington, February 4. The application of Guiteaa’s counsel for a new trial has been refused and sentence has been passed upon him. He is to be hanged on the 30th June. Paris, February 4. An agreement was signed to-day by M. Freycinet, the French Premier and Minister of Foreign Affaits and Lord Lyons, British Ambassador at Palis, fir prolonging the present Anglo-Preneh commercial treaty until March Ist.
