REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.

BRITISH AND FOREIGN, London, January 28. Telegrams are to hand, reporting that Chili has decided upon the terms on which it will conclude a treaty of peace with Peru. The conditions are the concession by the former of the Province of Tarapaca, in lieu of the transfer of the guano deposits of the Lobos Islands, and an indemnity of twenty millions, payable in sixteen years. In the meantime Chili is to occupy Arica, and retain it if the indemnity is not paid in the specified time. It is further announced that, in the event of these terms being refused by Peru, Chili will decline further mediation on the part of the United States. The bodies of two bailiffs, who have been missing since December last, have been discovered tied in sacks and sunk in Lough Musk Lake, in the West of Ireland. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, January 28. The Russian squadron arrived here to-day. Sydney, January 27. A destructive file occurred to-day at Juuce railway station, on the Great Southern line, by which the station buildings, offices, and refreshment buffet were destroyed. The latter was insured for £2400, one-fourth of which was reinsured in the New Zealand office. The cause of the fire is unknown. January 30. Patrick Higgins, well-known as the contractor for the construction of the zig-zag railway over the Blue Mountains, is dead. There is good reason to believe that the small-pox epidemic has been stamped out. No case now exists in the city, and there is only one patient suffering from variola at the Sanitorium.
