It having been brought under the notice of the Government that penny duty stamps have been affixed to letters posted and have been, refused by the Post Office officials, arrangements are now being made that penny postage and duty stamps may be used for either postage or receipt purposes. A performance will be given at the Adelphi Theatre to-morrow evening, by the newly organised Comedy and Bur* lesque Company. It will commence with “Struck Oil” in which Miss Johns will appear as Lizzie Stofel, a character she proved so successful in on a former visit here. Mr Wilkinson will be John Stofel, and Mr Alexander will appear for the first time here as Deacon Skinner. Two larrikins, named John Rowe and Ferrendi Kilgour, aged about 16, took it into their heads to run away from home and their business occupations in Greymouth) on Wednesday last, and succeeded in getting as far as Kumara, where they slept for the night. Of course their absence occasioned some concern to their parents and masters, and, the police being communicated with, the youthful absconders were traced and identified, but, when confronted, resolutely gave fictitious names, thinking probably to escape the vigilance of the watchful eye of the bluish representatives of the law. They were sent back to Greymouth by yesterday morning’s tram, a little wiser, it is to be hoped, than when they came away. A seventh share in the well-known “Dunedin” claim is in the market for sale, particulars of which may be ‘learned fro2n Mr T. Moynihan, on the ground.
