By a notice which appears in our advertising columns it will be seen that the Valuation Lists for the various Ridings of the County of Westland are now open for inspection at the County Council Chambers, Sewell street, Hokitika. The Arahura Riding list may be seen at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Goldsborough, at which Court objections must be left on or before the 15th day of February next, addressed to the Assessment Court, and a copy of every such objection must be left at the office of the County Council, Sewell street, Hokitika, not less than seven days before the next sitting of the said Court. Walton, an American, recently left London for New York with £67,000 turf winnings. Some of the sporting journals insinuated that he bribed jockeys and trainers, which he denies. Bennett, of the New York Herald; is at present at St. Petersburg, where he is engaged in organising a new expedition to the Arctic regions.
