This closed the day’s play. JanuaTy 13. The cricket match was resumed today at 12.40. A stiff easterly wind was again blowing. At 2 o’clock Barlow was given out l.b.w. to C. Frith j Bates took his place and begun scoring rapidly. At 60 Fitz Gerald was put on to bowl in W. Frith’s place. Selby pat up a soft one in the slips, but Spring missed it. Runs then came steadily, the field becoming demoralised, and several changes of bowling were tried, till 101 Davenport, at point secured Selby. Shrewsbury was caaght by Harris in the slips after making a single. Midwinter should have been run out as soon as he joined Bates but for loose fielding. At luncheon adjournment the score stood at 108 for 3 wickets, Bates having made 58, not out. After Bates was dismissed the game was very slow.
