BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, January 3. A meeting of landlords was held today in Dublin to consider the working of the Irish Land Act and the recent decisions of the Land Courts in the cases brought before them. Fully 4000 landlords from vaiious parts of the country were present, ami resolutions were passed setting forth their willingness to loyally abide by the Land Act, but adding that if certain decisions which have been giv.en by the Assistant Commissioners were maintained the landlords would maintain compensation from the State for losses occasioned by reductions made by courts in fixing the rental to be paid by tenants. Obituary.—William Harrison Ainsworth, novelist, aged 77.
