There was a very large concourse of people present. A suitable address whs presented by h's Lordship, reference being made therein to the fact that the stone would occupy the spot on which the Bishop determined in his own mind become a priest. A silver trowel suitably inscribed was also presented to his Lordship. The Bishop, in acknowledging the address presented to him, referred to his having commenced his studies at St. Mary's under the Ten. Father Garin, who had been their pastor 32 years. The band of the Wellington City Guards peiformed sacied selections during the ceremony, !
Christchurch, January 3. The Judge's charge at the Court waS short and unimportant. He referred briefly to the recent deaths of exJudge Chapman, Hellish, R.M., and Captain Clo»stonn. All cases on the sheet biit two were disposed of as follows :—Morgan Harper, larceny, 4 years penal servitudeij Frederick Hunter, breach of Marriage Act, 6 days; and £lO fine ; William Sutton, indicted for assault, 12 months j Daniel Marks, receiving stolen property, 18 months } Matthew Keen, larceny, 2 years j John Crabtree, horse stealing, was acquitted} the Crown Prosecutor, declining to lead any evidence.' No true bill was found against Alexander M'Millan, for emteMlement. Charters got 4 years penal servitude for embezzlement and 4 years for forgery, sentences cumulative:
