BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Installation of mayor.

A meeting of 'the Borough Council was called fdr n66n to-day, but it was 'twenty minutes past that hour before a a quorum came together. There were present Councillors O'Hagau, Dove, Pollock, Burger, and Rudkin. i?be Town Clerk announced the Weting to be the annual one for the installation of Mayor of the Borough of Kumara. Mr John O'Hagan being the only person nominated for that office, ( he had been duly declared elected ; and he now formally announced this fact. Cr. O'Hagan expressed his thanks and acknowledgments of the honor conferred upon him. He felt proud of the 'office, and of his election as Mayor for a second term. They had nothing to grumble at; the Council was £l2O in Vlebt when he took office; they owed nothing now; they were cu a clear footing, and it was a position to which they might well feel proud. Considerable sums of money had been spent 'during the year on permanent improvements, on the Recreation Ground, on the streets, and for Cemetery; and these nad been accomplished in the face of a "smaller revenue than in the preceding year; so that all things considered, there was cause for satisfaction. But he only claimed a share of the credit; nothing could be done without the assistance of the Council. They had fevery right to feel satisfied. He hoped when the time came round next year, they would be in a still better position. But they must go into debt on account 'of water-supply. They could see their way to pay.ify and that, too, in a short time. He hoped they would pull well together, and make things as smooth in the future as they had in the past.— [Hear, hear.]

The usual 'declaration was then read by the Town Clerk, responded to and feigned by Cr. O'Hagan as Mayor; and, iafter being signed by the councillors present, a>» witnesses,

Cr. RurJKIN congratulated the Mayor on his reelection, and said he might rely on the support of the Council. The Mayor replied, and the Council iheii resolved into an ordinary meetings which, in the course of a few minutes fell through for want of a quorum.
