STATE SCHOOL, KUMARA.
BREAKING-UP FOR THE MAS HOLIDAYS.
Yesterday tile chairman of the Local School Committee (R. J. Seddon, Esq.), together with Messrs Campbell, and RuJkiu (members of the Committee), and Messrs Keech, Emerson, and Tomsj visited the school; it being the ever' welcome breaking-up day for thes Christmas vacation. The Cllaii'fiian addressed a few kind words to each .class, and impressed upon the children the necessity of punctual attendance ;• also the pleasure' k gave the committee' to And that the' result of the annual examination shewed that fair progress had been made during the pnst twelve months. He also announced that the prizes would be distributed after the holidays, and that the annual picnic would take place the day after New Year's D'&y. The children then adjourned to the play-grouud when fruit and lollies were distributed j they al.so seized the opportunity of asking Mr Keeoh for the use of his paddock for the picnic, to which a good-humored smile was given; this was taken by the youngsters as consent, and throe cheers were giver* for Mr Keech. Cheers were also given for the Committee and teachers, after which the youngsters dispersed. With fruit in one hand and lollies in the other, all went home happy, and arrived at the conclusion that beyond a doubt the holidays had commenced.
