Balclutha, December 8.
Yesterday afternoon while two younw girls, daughters of Mr Alexander Ironl side, coach proprietor, were playing with a raft in a waterhole in the lower reserve, both fell in. One managed to scramble out, but the other, seven years of age, was drowned. Dunedin, December 8.
A fire at Kensington this morning destroyed the shops of William Lemon, draper; John Johuson, Ironmonger; and an unoccupied dwelling ; and partially burned the dwelling of Barry. The only insurances ascertainable are on Jackson's shop, £IOO in New Zealand; and on Mr Barry's dwelling, £3OO in Colonial.
Auckland, December 6,
The consecration and dedication of the new Freemasons' Hall, Princes street, took place to-day, in the presence of a large gathering of Masons. D.G. Master, Bro. G. S. Graham, and Bro. Hon. F. Whitaker took part in the ceremony. The body of Alexander M'Donaldson was recovered at Russell. An inquest was held. The verdict was accidental death.
