Mr R. J. Seddon will address the electors at the Theatre Royal this evening. The committee for his return will meet at the Public Hall at 7.30 p.m.
The mail coach from Christchurch arrived this afternoon at 3.5 o’clock. The West Coast Times announces with deep regret, the death of Mr S. M. South, which took place yesterday, at noon, at his residence, after an illness of some duration. The deceased gentleman was so well known throughout the coast as a solicitor and Crown Prosecutor, that it is almost unnecessary to do more than announce the melancholy fact of his demise. His age was 71. Captain Edwin telegraphed to the har-bor-masters yesterday afternoon that there were indications that the glass would fall again after 12 hours, with northerly winds and sea making. Mr R. J. Seddon addressed crowded meetings at Stafford on Saturday evening,
and Goldsborough on Monday, at both of which places he was most cordially received, and unanimous votes of confidence passed. Hanlon and Boyd have arranged a sculling match to take place in April next, but a slight difference exists in regard to the locality fur this championship contest. Hanlan insists on rowing on the Thames, and Boyd on the Tyne.
