The scarcity of water on this goldfield has become such a serious matter to the miners generally that a public meeting is called for this evening, at the r i heatre Royal, for the consideration of the best means which can be adopted to alleviate the distress and misery which must inevitably follow if an adequate supply is not very quickly brought to bear on the present workings-. We trust to see the meeting tonight adopt some prompt and decisive means to remedy the threatened evil consequences.
Want of space compels us to hold overseveral matters of local interest till our next issue.
The mail coach from Christchurch arrived at the usual hour tins afternoon, as did also Mr Rugg’s coach.
Mr Seddon addressed the electors at Callaghan’s last evening. A vote of confidence was passed, there being two dissentients from its unanimity. Messrs Girdwood, Lahman, and Co. will sell at the Preston Yards, Creymonth, on Monday, grand quality bullocks, fat wethers and lambs, calves, and dairy-fed porkers.
