COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS ARAHURA RIDING.

The official declaration of the result of the polling for the election of three members to represent the Arahura Riding in the County Council of Westland, which took place on Wednesday last, is now published, and appears in another part of this issue. It will be seen that the official record places Mr M'Whirter second on the list in point of numbers, and Mr Seddon third. The mistake in the first announcement was caused, we understand, by transposing Messrs Seddon and Sandle’s names and numbers as totalled at Stafc ford j but this has now been rectified. As more interest has been manifested in this election than on any previous occasion in Kumara, we have collated and corrected the figures given in previous issues, and now present to our readers, in a tabular form, the names of the candidates, the number of votes recorded for each at the respective polling-places, and the total votes iccorded at the several booths :

Supposing that every voter, had availed himself or herself of the right of voting for three candidates one-third of 2119 would represent the number of pet sous in the riding who exercised the privileg". In reply to a paragraph which appears in the West Coast Times to-day intimating that we clang to “ the delusive hope that Mr Seddon polled more votes than Mr M'Whirler,” we deny that we had any wish or interest whatever, direct or indirect; as to which of (he two candidates’ names appeared second in the total returns. And as to the transposition of Messrs Seddon and Sandle’s names and number of votes polled, as was the caie in the West Coast Times, it was impossible for us to rectify the totals until we obtained the returns from all the polling places in the riding. The Stafford returns published by us in an Extra on the night of the polling, and again the following day, were correct, placing Mr Sandle first.
