BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council, adjourned from Thursday, was held at the Town Hall last evening; present—His Worship' the Mayor, (J. O’Hagan, Esq.)'in the' chair, Councillors Barnett, Anderson,Horne, Campbell, Burger, and Seddon.The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of, and the inward .read and received. In reply to a letter received from the Inspector of Armed Constabulary,. The Mayor moved and Or. Seddon: seconded—“ That the Council inform the Inspector of Armed Constabulary that the salary of the Inspector of Nuisances will be fixed at £2O per annum, and 5 per cent, on the amount received for dog tax.”—Carried. Cr. Seddon moved and Cr. Campbell seconded—“ That Mr George Stewart be appointed temporary Inspector of Nuisances; the remuneration to be 10s per week, and subject to one week’s notice on either side.”—Carried. Mr George Stewart, who was present in the hall, was formally notified of the motion, and he accepted the appointment. An application from H. Brady to increase the amount of his contract was not entertained. ■ An application from P. Healey to form an approach to his house was, on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Burger, referred to Crs. Seddon, Burger, Horne, and Anderson, to report upon._ It was resolved that the consideration of a letter from the Goldfields Secretary be held over for the present. A letter ftom Mr D. Falvey concerning drainage of a section was, on the motion of Cr. Barnett, seconded by Cr, Anderson, referred to Crs. Seddon, Burger, Horne, and Anderson to report upon. In the matter of the Cemetery boundary question, Cr. ('amphell moved and Cr. Horne seconded—“ That the Borpugh Surveyor apply to the Land Office for a plan of the Cemetery as surveyed, and that he then apply for the addition required.”—Carried. The Borough Surveyor was instructed
have the creek near the saw-mills cleared, at a cost not to exceed £3, , 0° a motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Anderson, the consideration of a letter from the Secretary to the Sports ’Committee was held over till next iheeting. The Auditors’ Report and balancesheet were read and received ; and, on the motion of Cr. Barnett, seconded by "Cr. Burger, the item of £3O, charged to goldfields water-supply, was transferred to the borough waterworks account. The report from the Finance Committee was read and received ; and accounts to the amount of £l2O 3s were passed for payment. Cr. Seddon moved and Cr. Barnett seconded Mayor in agreeing that the Borough Council pay half the expense of bringing up Dr, Rosetii, and finding a man lo watch the infected house be endorsed by this Council—. Carried. Cr,' Seddon moved and Cr, Campbell Seconded —“ That the question of raising a loan for supplying water to the iown be referred to the Finance Committee, to prepare a full detailed scheme, to be submitted to the next meeting of the Council.’’—Carried. The Council then adjourned.
