The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1881.

Ip newspaper paragraphists would have the propriety of conscience to supply the public with the simple information from whence they extract their locals, they would save the persons sometimes concerned as well as ourselves much anxiety, trouble, and time. This morning Dr. Keiran called on us complaining that our editorial last evening (on the reported cases of diphtheria) reflected, as he thought, rather unkindly towards him, and produced a copy of the Hokitika Star of the 18th inst., we suppose to show that that journal was rather in favor of his opinion concerning the supposed cases of diphtheria and gave him fair comment. The following is the paragraph referred to : Dr. Rossetti visited Kumara to-day for the purpose of diagnosing the reported cases of diphtheria at the Shallow Lead, and reporting upon the same. He will make ilo formal report until to-morrow ; but he lias stated that in one instance decided symptoms of diphtheria had presented themselves, but that the third and last Case is unquestionably nothing more than ulcerated sure throat. In each case the patients are progressing favorably. We pointed out to the doctor first of all that the leading article of last night was merely a narration of events which had transpired and of steps which have been taken by the Board of Health to suppress the contagions disease, if such it be; and, after producing a copy of our own paper containing the paragraph referred to, which proved to he two days prior to that of the Star, the doctor walked out a little wiser, and seemed happier in the reflection that, he had not been unjustly treated by ns. But we cannot congratulate our evening contemporary, the Star, on the same satisfactory result of the interview.
