THE SECRETS OF THE BALLOT BOX.
[to the editor.] Sir—l think it very unfair of “ Inquisitive ” to ask for an explanation from a Government officer “ how Tom Treloar got into the hallot-box V’ From ■tvhat I know of Mr Etheridge I dont believe he would vouchsafe any such information to anyone. “ Inquisitive ” seems to have got on the wrong track. Whilst there was the least possibility bf one or either of the scriitineei’s affording Mr Tteloal 4 the explanation how “ Mr Seddon got 48 plumpers* and Mr M'Whirter ‘ only ’ 8 ” (and I say it was quite any easy matter), it must be niost disingenuous to charge one who can have no sympathy with either candidate and tfhdse mouth and pen are Shut with giving such unnecessary information.—l am, sir, Ac.* Fair Play. Dill man’s, Nov. IS, 188 L [to the editor.] if “ Inquisitive” had been a scrutiheer at the recent election he would have knortn the ntimber of plumps given to Cach Candidate. The query of plumps being mooted, it may be interesting just now to know how the friends of the various candidates plumped at the last election for the General Assembly; At Kumara, Reid 7, Seddon 51, Dnngan 63, Barff 9, Gumming 2. At Dill man’s Town, Reid 10, Seddon 66, Ddngan 86, Barff 19, Cumtniug 4.—1 am, Ac., A Non-believer in Plumps. t>illman’s Town, Nov. 19,1881.
