[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Christchurch, November 14. At the R.M. Court to-day Charters was charged with embezzlement. The evidence was taken at length, after which prisoner said, £i I shall plead guilty in the higher Court of having taken the money referred to in the first three charges, but I have not received any part of it personally, and I shall disclose the names of those who, in my opinion, and I hope that of the public too, are more blameable than myself, and who received the benefit from the fraud. I wish to say with regard to the last three charges, I deny them in toto. [ have not embezzled the money. Hamilton has had his loan, and Restels as well. I could produce the proof of my innocence if 1 was at lilierty." IJe was then committed for trid on all six charges. The charge, of forgery will be heard on Monday. Blenheim, November 14. The Clarendon Hotel, Picton, \vn< burned to the ground last night. The cause is supposed to have been a defective chimt.ey. The house is said to be insured for £1200; furniture, £3OO, and billiard table, £l< 0. A good deal of furniture, was saved but- not the billiard table.
