The foundation stone of St. John's Wesleyan Church, Ponsonby, was laid to-day by Mrs Dewsbury, wife of the district Wesleyan clergyman. There was a large attendance. Alired Fall, butcher, broke his leg in crossing the Kaipara railway line. He lay all night on rhe ground, but his coo-eys were heard next day, and he was rescued. TIMARU, October 31. Today, at the invitation of his Worship the "Mayor (Captain Sutter), a large number* of influential citizens visited the dam at the head of the waterworks to witness the turning on of the water into the raco leading to the town.
