LATEST ENGLISH NEWS. ARREST OF PROMINENT LEAGUE AGITATORS. 200 FISHERMEN LOST. London, October 11. A severe hurricane has been experienced on the English coa*t, causing numerous wrecks and immense damage to shipping and seaport towns. Several lives have been lost thiough the disasters which have occurred.
The storm which raged yesterday on the English Coast destroyed .£50.000 worth of property, and caused the dea'h of fully 20 ) Northumberland fishermen. Numerous meetings are being held in Ireland, at which proposals have been made by various speakers that
tenants generally should refuse to pay any rent until Parnell has been released.
A special gazette has been issued by the Irish Executive to-day, in which “ boycotting” and coercion to join the League are proclaimed criminal Acts.
Several further arrests of prominent agitators have been made. Among those now in custody are Mr Arthur O’Connor, member of the House of Commons for Queen’s County ; Mr J. O’Kelly, member for Roscommon ; Mr T. Sexton, M.P. for Sligo ; and Mr Quinn, Sepretary of the Laud League. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mr Healey, M.P. for Wexford, and other arrests are known to be imminent.
The stringent measures which have heen adopted by the Government in Ireland continue without abatement. Dillon, M.P. for Tipperary, who was released from custody in August, and Heffernan, another prominent agitator, who was also recently released, have both been re-arrested. O’Brien, the editor of the United Ireland, the organ of the League, has been arrested. Telegrams received to-day from America state that the Irish agitators in that country are maddened at the action of the Irish Executive.
