[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Christchurch, October 14. The are 27 prisoners to he tried at the criminal sessions next week, the charges ranging from arson to libel. Mr Weston lias been asked by both portions of his divided constituency of Grey Valley to represent them. In this dilemma he resolved to accept the invitation which reached him first, viz., that of the Reefton people. It is reported here that Colonels Lyon and Packe have suggested that the Lyttelton Naval Brigade should volunteer
for service at Parihabi, hut that the latter did not think (lie indnc-ments offered were good enough, and refused.
NeLson, October 14. The Artillery, Navals, and City Rifles have offered their services to go to the front. Auckland, October 13. A soleiim requiem mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, for the repose of the soul of the late Archbishop Steins; During a boy’s quarrel at North Shore, a boy named William Endius, aged 9, stabbed a boy named Alexander Grattan in the back with a penknife; Endius was brought before the Magis l trate and remanded till Monday.
