The report of the House Committee for the past fortnight was read and received. It is as follows
Report of House Committee for Fortnight ending Sept. 20, 1881.
Re Convalescent Patients.—We have consulted with the Medical Officer, arid would recommend that, if after being pronounced convalescent by the Doctor, anv patient should desire to stay longer in the Hospital, such patient, with the consent of the' House Committee, may be allowed to do so provided that the sura of 30s per week be paid weekly, in advance, by or on account of the said patient, and also that the patient be subject to the rules of the Kumara Hospital. We have to call your attention to the conduct of the contractor of burials, who refused to carry out his contract, and consequently we had to employ another undertaker last Friday. The Wardsman having had in addition to his daily work to sit up two consecutive nights, watching a delirious patient, we, on the third night engaged a man -to keep watch for that night. During the fortnight we have admitted three patients (one subscriber and two non-ticket-holders) one of the non-ticket-holders being a destitute person, the other one subject to an agreement to pay 30s per week, and deposit lodged. We have had the gardens dug over and one planted with potatoes, the fences strightened and stayed, and the box-drain made and laid down. The report was adopted, With reference to the second clause in the report, it was ordered that tenders be called for burials, but that any tender from the late contractor be not considered.
