CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Board met at the office, Greymouth, on Thursday last, at 8 p.m.; present—Messrs Perkins (Chairman), Duncan, Grimmond, Parfitt, Petrie, and Warner. The following business having local interest, is extracted from the Argus : A letter was received from Mr E. U. Just, resigning the position of head teacher of the Stafford school. Resolved—“ That Mr Jlist’s resignation be accepted,.” From the same, asking for a certificate as to character and ability. Mr Perkins moved that the Inspector be requested to forward a certificate to Mr Just. The Chairman declared the motion carried. Mr Petrie requested that a division be taken. The following was the result Ayes, Messrs Duncan, Grimmond, and Perkins j Noes, Messrs Warner and Petrie. Resolved—“ That Mr Burns be appointed head teacher of the Stafford School, as recommended by the Committee.
From the Secretary Kumara Committee, enclosing the resignation of Mr Wilson as head master of the Kumara school, and requesting to be relieved from his duties on July 25th, 1881. Unsolved—“ That the resignation of Mr Wilson as head master of the Kumara school be accepted.” From the Secretary Kumara Committee, asking for a larger yearly grant for cleaning, fuel, &c.
Resolved—“ That the Kumara School Committee be informed that this Board is not at present prepared to alter the schedule of payments to committees.” Kumara Committee Requesting a grant of £1 18s 6d for the following purposes: patting new lock on door, new blind, press to hold sewing, holes in playground to be tilled up.—Recommended that the amount be granted. The following notice of motion was handed in by Mr Petrie :—That the Christchurch Road School District he combined with and form part of the Kumara School District.”
