Under the distinguished patronage of his Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication, received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, Upon instruc* . tions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th Match, 1878. We are informed that dealers in medicne often try to sell the eucalyphia oil found in the trade' instead of our ; Eucalyptus Extract. So ’far as the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the consequences would not-be serious; but as the qualities of both of the pro-. ducts are in riiany cases directly op* ’ i posed to one another, - we'consider ; it our duty to direct the public attention . to the following facts t-rr' The eucalyptus oil is recorded to bb of value as a in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing; blistering.* effect upon the skin. f '• f • ! :.2 Any blistering brought on by. ’the application of a medicament most' increase inflammation,; and it is therefore evident that-in oases qf wounds, colds,; bronchitis, diptheria,: croup, sprains, &c., the curative power of bur extract on the named diseases "being unquestionably proved by former publications in this paper, ah applicatfph of the oil instead of bur extract must impair the diseased. The truth of our assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resinousproduct, equivalent to common turpen* tine, its market valhla being about three shillings one! pound : weight. t)ur extract consists of the evaporating par- <■ tides of the gUm leaves, soothing- and * healing in its-effects,, its price being twenty-font; shillings for one - pound weight.
