BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, August 16. In the House of Lords to-day, the Irish Land Bill was again broughtTup for the farther Consideration of the, amendments made by the House of Commons at its last sitting. Various modifications were discussed at some length, but the Bill was finally agreed to without further alteration, and duly passed through Committee, In the course of the debate, the Marquis of Salisbury expre sed himself sin prised with the final changes made, in the measure by the House of Commons, but he added that he held the House answerable for the results which might arise from (he carrying out the provisions of the Bill. The home-ward Australian mails of the 10th left on the otii July, and were delivered, via Brindisi, to-dav. Washington, August 17. This morning’s bulletin- reports that President Garfield is still in a veey critical state, but the case is not considered hopeless.

Sydxky, August IS. Mrs Harris, wife, of the man Harris, who died ofsinall-pox at the quarantine station on the 7th instant, is now attacked with the disease, and has been temoved into the, infected enclosure.
